About the Event
What: The Great Friend to Families award luncheon catered by presenting sponsor Storie Street Grille.
Who: World-renowned writer Nikki Giovanni, author of a Caldecott Honor Book about Rosa Parks, will speak at a luncheon honoring nominees from across the High Country who have made sustained contributions to improve the lives of High Country children and their families.
The 2010 Great Friend to Families Award Nominees are Julie Bostick; Kim Carter, Ashley McKinney, and Laureen Vilas; Matthew Crawford; Angie Dolen; Shirlee Gaines Edwards; Susan Jones; Kaaren Hayes; Dick and Joan Hearn; Virginia MacLeod; Pat Morgan; Tammy Nelson; Carrington Pertalion; Denise Presnell; Susan Weinberg; Delores Wilder; Roberta Yates; and Joan Zimmerman. Carter, McKinney, and Vilas are all therapists at New River Behavioral Healthcare and were nominated jointly as were husband and wife community volunteers Dick and Joan Hearn. Nominations were due January 19th.
Where and When: noon to 2 pm on Friday, January 29th at the High Country Home Builders’ Plaza (755 NC Hwy. 105 By-Pass in Boone)
Cost: $20 per person, of which $15 is tax-deductible.
No tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets may be purchased online using Pay Pal or over the phone or in person at The Children's Playhouse (828-263-0011). Tickets purchased online or over the phone will be held at "Will Call." If you are purchasing tickets, after Wednesday, please call 828-263-0011 so that we can add you to our total and make sure you have a seat!
The Children's Playhouse will offer free babysitting at The Playhouse from 11:30-2:30 for parents attending the event. These slots are limited and must be reserved in advance. Call 828-263-0011.
